Victorian Christmas Setting The Scene with Scents

At The Harrison, we do like the Victorians did by creating a traditional, festive atmosphere using natural greenery and materials. We set the scene with all the usual trees and garlands but we also pay a lot of attention to the scents of Christmas. We create layers of natural fragrance by using real foliage in our garlands such as eucalyptus, holly, ivy and fir. Eucalyptus is our absolute favourite as it adds not only an uplifting yet calming aroma but it gives a lovely softness and colour when we use it in our arrangements around bannisters and on mantlepiece.

We decorate our tree with real cinnamon sticks and dried oranges and use natural soy candles from local producer Birney Candles in scents like Nutcracker or Cinnamon lozenge to complete the festive atmosphere. Using compostable/ biodegradable materials fits so well with our sustainability ethos too.

And of course, we can't forget to include some sneaky sprigs of mistletoe secretly planted around the building for those staying for our romantic breaks. Now that lockdown is over, Christmas kisses are now a thing again.
