Chamber Films Series Presents: Les Diaboliques

30th of September 8:00pm to 10:00pm
Hosted by J.P. Higgins
The third instalment of our film series is:
Les Diaboliques Dir. Henri-Georges Clouzot. 1955.
The film that inspired Psycho. The film that inspired every Hammer thriller of the 1960’s and most of William H Castle’s too. Why? Because it’s a fantastic, creepy, spooky, twisty-turny masterclass in suspense and chicanery, that’s serious, funny, droll and sophisticated and, with all that, manages to stick a perfect film plot in the mix too.

Chamber Films Series Presents: Sisters
Tickets £10
28th of October 8:00pm to 10:00pm
Hosted by J.P. Higgins
The next film curated for our audience is:
Sisters Dir. Brian De Palma. 1972.
There is split screen here, a series of Hitchcock homages – Bernard Herrmann is on scoring duty – and the peculiar sense of humour that reached its apotheosis in his next film, 1974’s hysterical Phantom of the Paradise. But this film is perhaps the first flowering of De Palma’s later obsessions and, tempered by a youthful satirical bent, his most interesting and personal film.

Chamber Films Series Presents: Black Christmas
Tickets £10
30th of December 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Hosted by J.P. Higgins
Our final film of 2025 will be:
Black Christmas Dir. Bob Clark. 1974.
Margot Kidder is back, in this Canadian proto-slasher film, inspired by the “babysitter and the man upstairs” urban legend and a spate of real-life murders that took place in the Westmount district of Montreal.
Black Christmas was a huge influence on John Carpenter’s Halloween, spawning the entire slasher film genre. Though I wouldn’t hold that against it. Oh, and John Saxon is in this film. John Saxon. You love John Saxon.
