Melanie's great grand father was head carpenter on the Titanic as it was been built in Belfast. The story goes that he spotted a beautiful young girl in a white dress on a bicycle passing by the ship yard. He was determined to meet this local beauty and managed to find out where she lived. A few months later the love struck couple were engaged. Meanwhile the ship was nearly completed with Jack working hard on the grand staircase which was to be an iconic feature on the Titanic. When he was offered tickets for the maiden cruise his fiancée told him that he had to choose. She warned him that if he went on the ship that she would not be there for him when he got back. The happy ending of the story is that he married her and went on to have a large and happy family.
