Belfast’s Titanic Gentleman & The Story Behind Our Most Majestic Room
When people speak of the Titanic, tragedy is often the first word that comes to mind. But here in Belfast, where the ship was built and launched, we remember something more: craftsmanship, ambition, and the remarkable people who brought that great vessel to life. Chief among them was Thomas Andrews, a true local hero—and the inspiration behind one of our most opulent rooms at The Harrison Chambers of Distinction.
A Son of Belfast, A Man of the Sea
A gifted engineer and the nephew of Lord Pirrie (Chairman of Harland & Wolff), Andrews rose quickly through the ranks to become Chief Designer of RMS Titanic. He personally oversaw many of Titanic’s design innovations, and even travelled aboard her maiden voyage to monitor every detail. When disaster struck, he famously gave up his chance at survival to help others—handing out lifejackets, guiding passengers to safety, and reportedly being one of the last seen on board.
He died a hero, and Belfast has never forgotten him.
The Thomas Andrews Room
At The Harrison, we honour Andrews’ legacy in a room as elegant and dramatic as the man himself. Our Titanic-themed room is a tribute to maritime opulence—think rich navy tones, polished brass, nautical detailing, and a sense of timeless grandeur. It’s a space that reflects the golden age of ocean travel, with a Belfast twist.
The ambiance is both immersive and deeply respectful—a place to reflect, relax, and imagine the city in its shipbuilding heyday.
