A Book Lovers' Guide to Belfast: A Literary Adventure

Why not stay at ‘The Harrison’, where shelves brim with books and cozy mini libraries invites you to lose yourself in a good novel. Relax in our tranquil rooms, bathed in natural light from charming bay windows, and perhaps feel inspired to pen your own story! With rooms named after renowned writers all with strong ties to Belfast, including the likes of C.S. Lewis, Jonathan Swift, Anthony Trollope, Samuel Beckett, Percy French, Seamus Heaney, W.B. Yeats, the Brontë sisters, and, of course, the beloved John Hewitt, who called our beautiful property his home.

The Harrison has become a vibrant hub for artists, musicians, and writers visiting Belfast. When Paul McVeigh stayed with us at the onset of lockdown, he had a conversation with our owner, Melanie Harrison, about fostering a literary initiative here, and thus, the idea for a residency began to take shape.Once the residency was established, Paul compiled a list of resources he believed would elevate emerging writers and set about securing them for the fortunate participants. This led to the creation of The Paul McVeigh Residency at The Harrison.Scheduled from Sunday, January 26th to Sunday, February 2nd, the residency is open to emerging writers residing in Ireland and the UK.
